As Co-President of Alliance I have the opportunity to interview prospective candidates, and here’s some of the common challenges they’ve told me about. First I’ve applied to hundreds of jobs and very little feedback. Well that’s not surprising because applicant tracking systems do not value potential just experience What I mean by that is as a transitioning junior military officer you may not have the industry experience that’s on the job posting, but the reality is based off your experience you have the leadership potential and skill to make a huge impact in Corporate America. The second thing is most opportunities are referral-based, meaning companies are looking for their own employees to refer candidates in. The second thing I hear is I really don’t know what’s out there I’m not sure what is available. Well why would you? And that’s where our process comes in. That’s where we help candidates understand what the possibilities are , and as long as you’re open in our program – open to different geographies, different potential job functions we can work with you to help you figure out what’s the best opportunity for you. What is the thing that’s going to help motivate you to get up every day and work really hard and drive your career. The last one I hear is I’ve never interviewed for a job I wouldn’t know where to start. Well interviewing is a skill and skill development requires a coach At Alliance we work with our candidates to emulate the interviewing experience asking you questions through a mock interview process that helps you practice so you’re prepared for those important interviews at a virtual hiring conference. My hope is by going through these challenges you realize you’re not alone. There are many junior military officers looking for their next opportunity and going through similar challenges when trying to find their next place of work.
